My Mum loves telling the story of when I was in the First Grade (just a few short years ago) and my class had to stand up in front of the school and all the parents, and tell everyone what we wanted to be when we grew up. There were the usual careers - Doctor, Fireman, Pilot, Vet etc. When it was my turn, I said I wanted to be a Housewife or Wonder Woman (you know, since the two were so closely associated?).
I like to think I've successfully become a cross between both (said with just a hint of sarcasm).
I actually think I recall saying I wanted to be a hair dresser, however after the great permed fringe debacle of my first year of high school, I don't really think that option was on the cards for me.
Miss5 has recently advised me of her own career aspirations. Imagine how completely chuffed I was when she told me she wants to be a Supermodel, but without clothes. BUT WITHOUT CLOTHES. I really didn't have the heart to tell her that, at the grand old age of 5, she was probably already too big for your standard issue toothpick thin supermodel. She does, however, have a mean pout and an equally impressive bored/contemptuous deadpan expression that would fit in well on the catwalk.
I have no idea how she came up with this interesting career path, and naturally I'm trying to steer her towards other interests...I've been teasing her fringe and curling it to see if she wants to follow her Mother's early career aspirations.
I don't really care what she ends up doing - except for the whole supermodel without clothes idea. That would probably be at the bottom of my parental pride list, and I'm not entirely sure how I could put a positive spin on that one when bragging in years to come... "Au Naturale Visual Artistic Aide"?
In light of this development, it is probably time to address the running joke between my Brother - number 1 Uncle - and I. He swears she will have a brilliant career as a pole dancer, due to her smooth moves being the kind that Britney Spears would be proud of. No idea where she learnt those either, before you ask.
So anyway I'm off to research posh English Finishing Schools, and contact the Producers of "Ladette to Lady". Just in case.
I remember watching "Girls Next Door" once and seeing the parents of one of the Playboy bunnies try to act proud that their little girl was shacked up in the Playboy mansion and planning on jumping out of a cake wearing only a few tassels for Hefner's birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt makes "Au Naturale Visual Artistic Aide" seems a lot more respectable!! So funny!
I know exactly what you mean - I think I've seen the episode, or a similar one with one of the other Playmate's parents. Wow, you've given me another option for my little pole dancer in the making. That could be the whole supermodel without clothes thing!
