Sun Rice Mini Bites : Review and Giveaway

I am all about the quick and easy snack option.

I like to say I'm all about the healthy eating option, but honestly, there are times when that comes second to speed and ease.

I've had three bunches of kale go limp in my vegetable crisper, just waiting for me to tackle home made kale chips that everyone says are so healthy and yum.

Best of intentions, but not always good on the follow through.

So it's nice when I'm offered a product to trial that ticks all the boxes.

The realistic boxes.  While it would be great to have organic, corn fed, farm bred, rain forest alliance certified, free range everything...that stuff can be crazy expensive, and not always tasty (yes tofu, I'm talking to you).

Realistic snack food requirements

Fairly healthy
It's a snack.  Not a treat.  There is a difference.  And, at the risk of going all ranty and opinionated on you, I think the line between the two is blurred with some snack offerings.

Minimal unnecessary preservatives and additives
For those times I can't/don't make it myself, I want to know I'm not doing my kids a disservice.

And also so I don't have to feel guilty about offering up a packaged snack instead of going all Martha Stewart and actually baking the bloody kale chips myself.

Affordable
I love a convenience snack.  I object to paying exorbitantly for the convenience.  And I simply can't afford it times 3 kids (4 if #1Hubby senses there are packaged snack items on the premises).

Something the kids will consume without whining
It is still a snack, so it has to be appealing above and beyond the carrot sticks and apple slices it's likely being offered up alongside.

Gluten Free (preferred)
As previously mentioned, Mstr4's eczema flares up seasonally, and we find that reducing his gluten intake helps at those times.  So I'm always on the hunt for an affordable Gluten Free snack.

Sun Rice Mini Bites meet those criteria, where my family are concerned -

No artificial colours or flavours.

Gluten Free

Visually appealing to the kids
The kids went all nuts over the monster characters on the packaging.  It was an exciting snack option for them.

Worked wonders keeping The Twin Tornado quiet while Miss8 was trying to do her homework, happy clapping out the syllables in her weekly words list (OMG, it's like living with a seal....).

Healthy content
Love, love, love that a serve contains less than 1% of a child's recommended daily intake of sugar.

They also contain 40% - 70% (depending on age) of a child's RDI of grains and legumes.  Grains my kids are fine with, legumes not so much.  This is just another way to get their intake up on those tough days when you're exhausted from fighting the healthy eating fight.

Flavour
They're tasty.  And not just toddler tasty.  I highly recommend the Original Mini Bites with a small wedge of Triple Cream Brie, washed down with a chilled glass of Semi Sav Blanc.

Me.  Not the kids.

The verdict
There are so many convenience snack foods on the market.  I give most of them a try at least once.  Some a hits, others are misses.  Some contain ingredients/additives/preservatives I'm not keen on feeding my kids, and some are too expensive to justify.  This is one that we'll continue to buy.

Sun Rice Mini Bites are available in the health food aisle of your local supermarket.
