What's in a name?

Miss5 has decided she wants to change her name.

Here's how it went down...



Miss5:   Mum, can people change their name?

Me:        Yes

Miss5:   Why?

Me:        Ahh, I don't really know.  Maybe they just want to (plus some shed words said in my head)

Miss5:   Is it easy to do?

Me:        (Insert massive, dramatic sigh....) I don't know, I think there might be forms to fill out, and then you'd have
              to tell everyone your new name and they'd have to try and remember it.

Miss5:   Ok, so let's do that.

Me:        (Insert confused silence)....What do you mean?

Miss5:   Change my name

Me:        Right.....so, ah.....what would you like to change it to?

Miss5:   Liv

Me:        You can't change your name from Liv to Liv

Miss5:   Yes I can

Me:         No, you can't

Miss5:   Yes I can if you get the forms and I tell everyone to call me Liv instead of Liv

Me:        (Insert confused silence plus shed words muttered in my head plus massive dramatic sigh)

Miss5:   So can you do that for me please Mum?

Me:        But you're not changing anything.  Liv is already your name

Miss5:   MUM.  SERIOUSLY.  I'M CHANGING MY NAME

Me:        MISS5.  SERIOUSLY.  YOUR NAME IS ALREADY LIV

Miss5:   MUM!  I'M CHANGING MY NAME TO LIV!

Me:        (Insert pause long enough for me to realise I can not possibly win this one)
              Fine, whatever.  I will call you Liv from now on.

Miss5:   Good, thanks Mum (walks off with victorious smirk, advising her siblings she is now called Liv instead of Liv)



Seriously...

I don't even know what happened, but somehow I feel like she won.
