On to all things prehistoric including my crap old coffee plunger, #1Hubby who is yet to get my Christmas giftage *ahem*.
Mstr2 is obsessed with dinosaurs. #1Hubby and I are quite pleased by this, as it makes a change from his other great loves - florals, Dora the Explorer, handbags, and plastic dress up heels.
We've got dinosaurs scattered all over the house, mostly as speed bumps strewn across all floor coverings, complete with pointy bits facing up to stab me in the foot and cause great pain while testing my swear-reflex.
I normally get to "Holy mother of ....." before I check myself and realise the kids are looking at me, waiting for the "shed word" to come out of my mouth, so they can gleefully copy it all day long.
So, instead, I say Vodka.
"Holy mother of Vodka!"
The kids, in turn, say "Holy Mummy Cordial!"
Bless their cotton socks. Or, poly cotton blend as I'm too cheap to buy the 100% cotton socks.
Given Mstr2's love of dinosaurs, I jumped at the chance to review and giveaway Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train : Have you heard about the herd?
It contains 10 episodes of Dinosaur Train, which equates to enough time for:
- A hot coffee
- An uninterrupted phone conversation to
whine about school holidayscatch up on gossip
- Flicking through an entire week's junk mail, without it being ripped away from me, and circling items I don't need but can't pass up because they are on sale.
- Hanging a load of laundry without having to wrestle it off a giggling toddler who thinks it's totally hilarious to deposit grotty hand prints on Mummy's clean Tshirt while stretching the life out of it.
- Sweeping the floor without kids walking directly through the pile of dirt and redistributing it.
- Eating the final Tim Tam biscuits without sharing. That's 4 for me and none for the 3 kids who are so engrossed in the Dinosaur Train DVD that they haven't heard the faint rustle of chocolate biscuit packet from where I'm hiding inside the closed pantry, scoffing the lot for dear life, just in case they find me.
- Checking emails without sticky toddler fingers helpfully stabbing away at the keyboard
- Use the bathroom solo. Not a knock on the door. Not a child bursting in unannounced. No interrogation on what you're doing and have you wiped properly from Miss6.
And I could've got even more done, but once I sat in front of the laptop to check emails I got totally sidetracked by another cute cat vs. dog You Tube clip...oh okay, it was a George Clooney PowerPoint compilation.
My favourite part of the DVD?
Listening to the twin tornado try and pronounce the names of the dinosaurs. It had me in hysterics, and thankfully, took Mstr2's mind off trying to say truck - which comes out as FRUCK, only not always with the R. Think BIG FRUCK, LITTLE FRUCK, FRUCK OUTSIDE, FRUCK BROKEN....and so on.
The best thing about Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train?
It's educational. You could say I'm totally home schooling the feral threesome by allowing them to watch this, on account of how they are learning about dinosaurs and prehistoric times.
I'm such a good parent like that.
Dinosaur Train is huge in America. It's even been nominated for a Daytime Emmy. I sincerely hope it beats The Bold and The Beautiful, so Brooke and her sisters have genuine reason to display their signature concerned-come-sexy-pouty faces.

ReplyDeleteWe love Dinosaur Train here, Mr 3 has been telling me all about it since he noticed it on Nick Jr and now Mr 17months will run to get a dinosaur and track me down to show me it is on.
ReplyDeleteOMIGOSH - thanks dear lord there is another suffering mother (sorry) who steps on freaken dinosaurs numerous times a day. Master almost 3 is OBSESSED with dinosaurs...... we have hundreds - (I'm pretty sure they breed at night)..... he makes us hunt them around the house all day long 'pew pew'....... He now role plays with them - the Big Dinosaur is daddy, the Medium Dinosaur is me and the little dinosaur is him - Apparently the Medium Dinosaur is always telling the little dinosaur to "stop, put that away, I told you once ....., go to sleep or you get a smack" eeek!

Not only are dinosaurs fun but there is an educational factor to them as well, they teach children about both history and the environment!

ReplyDeleteWe love this show. My Mr 4 sounds very intelligent reeling off the dinosaur names, which I find amazing considering he has trouble with 'please' and 'thank you'. And the toy line is pretty amazing because the dinos talk to each other! (Great, I hear everyone say, more needless chatter) Its very interactive.

ReplyDeleteWe love dinosaur train in our home, we have ten children including 4 young boys 9 months, 2.5, 6 and 8 y/o who are obsessed and know the song and characters off by heart, mummy also loves dinosaur train as it means I can get things done without helpers, it is educational and entertaining and is top of list when asking what they would like to watch J

ReplyDeleteWe love dinosaur train! DS3 is obsessed and got some of the talking toys for Christmas. DD2 thinks her brothers presents are way cooler then hers and has claimed a couple as hers!
ReplyDeleteMaster 3 has watched these with his friends and we are always having to go through 'time tunnels' and the amazing facts he knows thanks to Mr Conductor are astounding, this would be a terrifically non mum guilt TV option. ReplyDeleteI just had a giggle with your comments about the "speed bumps" through the house, sounds exactly like my house except the comment is "oh gosh geez" which Master 3 now mimicks to perfection! He's a huge dinosaur fan, especially Dinosaur Train and just got yet another box of little speed bumps at a xmas party today.

ReplyDeleteLol - it's amazing how they can't hear "put that down, don't touch that, no no no!!!!" but they can hear the faintest of crinkles from the packaging of something chocolatey and respond promptly with a "mum, what are you having?" It never ceases to amaze me how they can ignore anything healthy but can hear the treats - heck they can probably tell when we are thinking of having something nice! I have been guilty of choking on a caramello from a box of Favourites whilst trying to spit out "Nothing *cough* *choke* *sputter* ... here, have one but dont tell your brothers" followed by "look what mum gave me" ... ahhh for a few minutes of, well, just nothing!

ReplyDeleteOooooh Mr 3 is infatuated with Dinosaur Train.. We have one of the DVDs on repeat most of the time, so a change would be great! Olly has learned soooo much from Dr Scott in the show, we all love Dinosaurs here!!
